I am Greek by birth, British by education, Iranian by marriage: I shuttle across homelands and their languages, and often come home to roost in writing. My academic work focused on Iranian culture and communication. I still observe cultures, rituals and worldviews, but mostly now concentrate on our shared humanity and on what connects people; I write life stories and read the stories of others. See more here.
What I am doing now…
Launched on 2 January 2021, this monthly newsletter started with posts on communication, language, rituals, and what connects people. Over the years it has followed the focus of my interests towards life writing, Stoicism, healing and the voice. Check it out and subscribe for free here .
Launched on 14 February 2025, this newsletter, a legacy project, is a return to my roots in the Greek island Kasos. The section Kasos Stories will include folklore and stories from Kasos: history, legends, people, past lives.
The novel Landlocked set there will be serialised in this section . I can’t promise how often I will post instalments: let me say that the story has been brewing for well over two decades and has undergone a lot of transformation, but it promises to be a journey of discovery. For my Greek readers, the Greek version of Landlocked (Αποκλεισμένοι απ΄την θάλασσα) lives here.

Occasional reflective posts (Iranians call them “heart-writings”) on interpersonal rituals, nostalgia, the writing life, women’s lives, and memory (from January 2020 until March 2024). Some items from Some Little Language are cross-posted here.
