Odyssey Marathon Reading, Fadjr International Theatre Festival, 26 January 2017, Tehran
My role: Cultural and Academic Consultant on the project team that organised the first Odyssey Marathon reading ever in Iran in collaboration with the Embassy of Greece in Tehran. My input helped the Greek project manager negotiate successfully the complexities of Iranian reality.
About the main event: On January the 26th 2017 in the Main Hall of the City Theatre (Teatr-e Shahr), Tehran, 200 readers including politicians, journalists, artists, diplomats, students and schoolchildren gathered to read and sing Homer's Odyssey in a continuous, eight-hour long reading. Readers presented their assigned part, one after the other, in the languages of the world and the languages and dialects spoken in Iran. The event was enhanced with on-stage projection of the text in English and Persian and relevant images. Music interludes and melodies from local and international musical ensembles were also performed during the whole time of the reading with the use of reconstructed ancient Greek Instruments. This unique experience was a modern revival of the ancient tradition of narrative poetry recital in honour of this masterpiece of global heritage and value.

The event was organized by the Embassy of Greece in Iran and the Telemahos group, with the support of the NGOs The Readers of Homer and EllinikoTheatro.

I compiled Persian-English glossaries, preliminaries and end matter; I implemented a Persian transliteration guide to ensure consistency across the three volumes; I carried out library and bibliographic research, and geographical and historical fact-checking; I copy-edited three articles on modern Iran
